Burgundy velvet dress with pleated statement sleeves
Burgundy velvet cut into a wrap dress with huge pleated sleeves and a hem that drops from high on one leg to the knee.
The dress is burgundy velvet, cut as a wrap: a draped surplice bodice with a deep V, a fitted waist and a skirt that crosses over itself so the front hem sits high on one leg and drops to the knee on the other. The sleeves are the point. Two sharply pleated puffs that rise above the shoulder and fan out like a collar, stiff enough to hold their shape, soft enough to still read as velvet.
This is an evening dress and it does not pretend otherwise. Worn for a gala, a dinner in a room with tapestries, anything with a long corridor to walk down. Pointed heels in black, hair straight and down, lilac nails and nothing else, because the sleeves already take all the room.
Autumn and winter only. Velvet in July is a punishment I have served once.
