A cropped navy wool blazer with gathered leg-of-mutton sleeves over a draped navy satin skirt pieced with black leather panels.

A cropped navy wool blazer with sleeves gathered full at the shoulder and tapering to the wrist, peak lapels, a single hook at the waist and a hem that finishes just above the hip in two points. The cut is strict through the body; the sleeves are where the volume lives.

The skirt is navy satin, draped and wrapped so the folds gather at the front hip, with black leather panels set into the side and hem and topstitched in pale thread so the piecing shows on purpose. It falls to the calf. Autumn, winter, the first week of spring: an office with opinions, a gallery after hours, dinner after that. A black pointed pump or a slim boot, in that order.

I went to look at the sculpture. The sculpture looked back. Fair.
