A cobalt rose-brocade blazer with black leather lapels, shoulder tabs and pocket flaps, over a matching asymmetric wrap mini skirt.

A fitted blazer in cobalt rose brocade, the pattern raised in a metallic thread so it reads blue on black. The lapels, the shoulder tabs, the pocket flaps and the sleeve cuffs are cut in black leather, and the side panels too, so the body is pinched between two dark seams. Two black buttons, double-breasted and low. The skirt matches: brocade, short, with an asymmetric wrap panel that crosses the front and drops a point at one hip.

A suit for rooms with history and no heating. Worn as a two-piece with the lapel open as far as it goes. Autumn and winter, a cocktail hour, a dinner in an old apartment, any party with a velvet chair. Pointed black heel, lilac nails, hair down.

Blue is a neutral if you own enough of it. I have been working on that.
