A cobalt duchess satin blazer dress with leg-of-mutton sleeves and a wrap-front mini skirt, leaning on an old wooden bar with a coupe.

A blazer dress in heavy cobalt satin with the sheen of duchess silk. The sleeves start as big leg-of-mutton puffs at the shoulder and narrow to a fitted forearm; the lapels are notched, the front is double-breasted with hidden fastenings and the bodice is seamed close to the body. The skirt is a wrap, folded across the front and finished short, so it opens like a petal when she leans.

This is a one-piece argument: no top under it, no belt, no bag. A black sandal with a thin strap, hair down, lilac nails against the blue. Autumn and all-season, a bar with filament bulbs and a drink that takes more than one step to make.

Blue is not my colour. The bartender disagrees, and the bartender pours.
