Burgundy puff-sleeve blazer over a satin slip dress
Burgundy on burgundy: a single-button wool blazer with gathered puff sleeves over a bias-cut satin slip dress, in a lamp-lit hotel room.
A burgundy blazer in a dry wool crepe, single-button, peak lapels, with sleeves gathered into a puff at the shoulder and narrowing to a long cuff. Underneath, a slip dress in a darker burgundy satin, bias-cut, with a straight neckline that sits just inside the lapels and a column skirt to the ankle.
The pairing is old-fashioned on purpose: tailoring over something that moves. Dinner, a hotel bar, anything in autumn or winter that ends after midnight, and it survives an office first if the office is dark enough. The blazer stays buttoned until it is warm enough not to; then the slip has to do the work on its own, which it can. Pointed heel, ankle out, no tights.
Two burgundies in one room. The lamps were already on my side.
