Burgundy cut-out blazer with a tweed and leather wrap skirt

A burgundy wool blazer with slashed shoulders, waist cut-outs and leather patches, over a raw-edged tweed wrap mini skirt with a buckled belt, in a studio.

A burgundy felted-wool blazer taken apart on purpose: slashes across both shoulders, open cut-outs at each side of the waist, a two-button front, and panels of burgundy leather sewn flat at the hip and under the arm like patches. The front panels are cut short and squared off, so the blazer ends above the skirt on one side. The skirt is a burgundy tweed wrap with raw edges, a leather patch on the hip and a wide tweed belt that closes with a gunmetal buckle, finishing well above the knee.

One colour, three textures, and every seam left showing. It is office tailoring for an office that would not notice, and a dinner or a drink afterwards with nothing changed. Autumn and winter with a knee boot, or no tights at all if the room is warm enough. No bag, no second layer.

The busts are all looking the other way. Rude, but I understand.

styling notes

  • Both buttons closed; the cut-outs do the opening
  • Knee boot in oxblood or black, or no tights at all
  • Keep the belt buckled over the wrap, never under the blazer
  • Watch and hoops, nothing else on the hands
