Same blue, top to floor. An oversized navy satin blazer with every seam left raw, over a knife-pleated maxi skirt with satin panels hanging in points at the hip. Sleeves pushed up, always. It looks unfinished. So am I before coffee. Wear it to dinner somewhere panelled.
An oversized navy satin blazer with raw, frayed seams over a floor-length knife-pleated skirt with handkerchief panels, all in one blue.
One blue, two shines. The blazer is navy satin cut big, with high padded shoulders, wide notched lapels and every seam left raw on the outside so the edges fray a little. It is long, past the hip, and hangs straight. The sleeves are pushed up and stay there.
The skirt is the same blue in a softer, finer pleat, floor length, with satin panels at the hip that fall into handkerchief points over the pleats. Worn together it reads as a suit that refused to behave. Dinner in a room with wood panelling and leather chairs, or an evening event where everyone else is in black. Autumn into winter, a pointed heel underneath that nobody will see.
Navy is a colour. Barely. I am counting it.
