Cobalt peplum blazer with an ivory satin circle skirt

A cobalt wool blazer with a pleated peplum hem and a single hidden button, over an ivory satin skirt that swings out from the waist.

Two pieces, two colours, no third thing. The blazer is cobalt felted wool with notch lapels, a single hidden fastening at the waist and vertical pleats stitched down from the shoulder that open into a short peplum below the waist. The sleeves stop just past the elbow. The skirt is ivory satin cut as a full circle from a fitted waistband, falling to the calf and moving on its own.

It is office tailoring with a temper. Wear it to a meeting that is also lunch, or to a daytime wedding where you are not the one getting married but intend to be photographed. Spring and the first dry weeks of autumn; the three-quarter sleeve shows the tattoos, so no need for a bracelet beyond the usual beads. Flat pointed shoes keep the skirt in proportion; a heel makes it formal. No belt, the peplum is the waist.

The alley was the only shade in town. I stood in the sun anyway.
