Charcoal and denim-blue trench dress with pleated panels

A trench coat worn as a dress in charcoal wool and blue denim, with knife-pleated side panels, draped sleeves and a front slit, in a loft at dusk.

A trench coat cut to be worn as a dress. The body is charcoal felted wool with a wide collar, storm flaps and epaulettes in blue denim, and the sleeves are the same denim, cut wide and draped so they fall open like a cape from the elbow. Knife-pleated panels in denim are set into each side from the waist down, the belt loops hold a half belt at the back, and the front closes with hidden buttons to a slit that opens just above the knee.

It is outerwear and the outfit at once, which is the only way I wear a trench after dark. Autumn and winter, dinner or an opening, with a pointed boot and no tights, the collar turned down and the sleeves left alone to do what they want. No bag; the pockets are the bag.

Denim and felt in one coat. Both of them think they are in charge.
