Burgundy felted wool tabard over a satin high-low gown
A raw-edged burgundy felted wool tabard with sculpted shoulders, layered over a tonal satin gown that rises at the front and falls to the floor behind.
Two layers, one colour. The base is a burgundy satin gown with a high draped neckline and a high-low hem: above the knee at the front, pooling at the floor behind. Over it sits a felted wool tabard in the same burgundy, raw-edged, with exaggerated squared shoulders and short structured sleeves, its panels falling open to asymmetric points above the knee. The two reds are not quite the same red. That is the point.
It is an event piece that happens to travel well: the wool holds its shape in a station hall and the satin does the drama on the platform. Winter and late autumn only. Flat black boots if the day is long, a pointed heel if it is short; no coat, the tabard is the coat.
Under a station clock, in a dress that takes up two seats. Punctual, as always. The train was not.
