Black crushed velvet one-shoulder dress with waist cut-outs

A one-shoulder crushed velvet midi dress with a single draped puff sleeve, cut-outs at the waist and a hem that falls longer on one side.

Crushed black velvet, cut asymmetrically: a single shoulder carries a short, voluminous puff sleeve that drapes rather than stands, and the other side is cut away to the arm. The bodice wraps across the body and opens into two small cut-outs at the waist, one each side, before the skirt falls to a handkerchief hem that sits above the knee in front and drops longer at the side.

This is a gallery-opening dress, a dinner dress, a dress for anywhere with good lighting and no dress code worth obeying. Velvet means autumn and winter; the cut-outs mean a coat goes on top, not a cardigan. A pointed black heel and nothing else added; the fabric already does the talking.

Stood next to a bronze for twenty minutes. People looked at the dress. The bronze has been there since the eighties and did not take it well.
