Black velvet tuxedo blazer with satin shawl lapels

A black velvet tuxedo blazer with satin shawl lapels over a white shirt buttoned to the top, on a bar stool under amber light.

A black velvet tuxedo blazer with black satin shawl lapels and a single covered button, cut close through the waist with a slight flare over the hip. The velvet is a dense cotton pile that drinks the light; the satin gives it back. Under it, a white cotton dress shirt buttoned to the collar, cuffs turned back over the sleeves, and slim black velvet trousers that stop at the ankle.

Black patent pointed pumps finish it, and that is all. No tie, no clutch, no coat. This is the suit for a whisky bar in winter, for a dinner that turns into a late one, for an opening night when the dress code says black tie and you would rather wear the jacket than the dress. In autumn it works with the shirt open one button and the same shoes.

A lowball glass is an accessory. The ice is optional.
