Teal blazer dress with a pleated satin panel and buckles

A crepe blazer dress with a pleated satin insert at the hip, held by two gold buckle straps, worn in a bookshop.

The dress is cut like a blazer: notched lapels, a wrap front, long sleeves pushed to the forearm, a hem that stops well above the knee. The twist is at the hip, where a panel of knife-pleated satin in the same teal is set into the side and held by two straps with gold rectangular buckles, so the tailoring opens into movement when she walks. One fabric matte, one fabric shine, one colour.

It is a one-piece look, worn without tights and with the sleeves pushed up; the shoes are out of frame and should be a pointed pump or a slim knee boot, nothing with a platform. Autumn and spring, late afternoon into the evening: a bookshop, a drink after, an office that lets you leave at six. The gold buckles are the only hardware it needs.

The book was upside down. The dress was not.
