Silver pleated top with a draped cobalt taffeta skirt
A sculptural top of knife-pleated silver lamé with winged shoulders over a cobalt taffeta skirt draped to the floor.
The top is silver lamé pleated into fine knife pleats and shaped, not draped: a high folded collar, winged panels that stand out from the shoulders, a fitted body and a short peplum that flares at the hip. The skirt is cobalt taffeta, crumpled and crisp, gathered at the waist and draped so that the fabric pools and folds on one side, the hem brushing the floor. Metallic pleated mules with a flared heel show at the hem.
Metal and paper, in effect: everything in this look holds a shape. It is worn with no layering and no bag, the arms free so the top keeps its silhouette. Evening, autumn and winter: a gala, a dinner in an old apartment with tall windows, anywhere the light is soft enough to let the silver read as grey. If the skirt feels like too much, the same top over a narrow black trouser is the day version.
Taken from behind, which is how most people see me leave.
