Blue. Two kinds of it. A cobalt silk top with sunray-pleated fan sleeves, tucked into a crinkled metallic maxi skirt that cannot sit still. Thin black sandals. The sleeves are the volume, so the hair stays flat. Wear it where there is a breeze and nobody in a hurry.
A fitted cobalt top with sunray-pleated fan sleeves, tucked into a crinkled metallic maxi skirt with a high-low hem.
Two blues that are really one. The top is a fitted crepe bodice with a high round neck, and the sleeves are two half-circles of sunray pleats that open from the shoulder like fans, stiff enough to hold. The skirt is crinkled metallic lamé, gathered into a flat waistband and cut high in front to the shin and long behind to the floor, so it moves like foil.
This is an evening look that works in daylight, which is rarer than it sounds. Black strappy sandals with a thin ankle strap keep the foot quiet. Hair down and straight; anything else fights the sleeves. Spring and summer, launches, a long dinner with a short walk.
I stood in a painter's studio for this. The canvases were blank. I was not.
