Oversized cobalt wool coat with matching trousers
Cobalt from collar to hem: a long oversized wool coat, straight trousers in the same blue and a crushed velvet top.
The coat is a long cobalt wool, cut oversized with dropped shoulders, wide notched lapels and a tie belt left loose at the waist. It closes with dark horn buttons and falls well past the knee, so sitting on the floor it pools like a blanket. The trousers are a matching cobalt with a straight, pressed leg.
Under the coat sits a cobalt crushed velvet top, the one place the colour catches the light. One shade, three textures: felted wool, smooth twill, rippled velvet. It is an autumn and winter outfit for errands, a slow coffee or a wait that runs longer than planned. Keep the shoes low and the hands free.
The dryer took forty minutes. The coat looked better every one of them.
