Magenta satin colour-block dress with tweed panels
A one-sleeve dress in magenta satin, wine wool and cream, with a pleated front skirt, sparkling tweed side panels and ladder cut-outs, in a painter's studio.
A dress assembled from blocks: magenta satin, a matte wine panel across the chest and a cream panel over the left shoulder, cut so the seams run on the diagonal. The right side has a tailored three-quarter sleeve with a padded shoulder; the left is sleeveless. The front opens in a narrow V to the waist. The skirt is knee-length, with a box pleat in satin at the front, sparkling magenta tweed at the sides and a row of ladder cut-outs at each hip.
It is a dress for being looked at while you are doing something else: an opening, a studio visit, a long lunch. Black pointed pumps, no tights, nothing on the arms. Spring and autumn; satin and tweed together will not survive a heatwave.
I went to look at the paint. The dress came because it matches.
