Emerald velvet and pleated satin gown with mesh panels
A floor-length emerald gown of crushed velvet and knife-pleated satin with embroidered mesh panels and winged shoulders, in an abandoned theatre.
A gown built in three materials in the same emerald: crushed velvet for the body, knife-pleated satin for the winged shoulders and the panels that wrap the waist, and embroidered mesh set into the sides of the torso and down one leg, beaded in green on a skin-tone base. The neckline is a structured sweetheart with the pleated satin folding over it; the hem pools on the floor.
It is a gala dress and nothing else. Thin-strap black sandals under the hem, no coat because there is nowhere to put one, and an entrance that does not need an announcement. Autumn and winter openings, premieres, the kind of theatre that still has velvet seats.
I picked a theatre that has been closed for forty years. The dress has better manners than the audience would have had.
