Lilac looks

Lilac is the one cool pastel in a wardrobe that mostly refuses them. A satin slip, a silk shirt, a knit worn over black trousers: it flatters the ice-blue eyes and it makes the black hair look bluer. Dahlia wears it in spring and early summer, in daylight, and in the one evening a year when she feels like surprising someone. Never with another pastel. With black it looks like a decision; with white it looks like Easter.
