Shoulders like a roofline. A cobalt wool jacket cut sharp across the top, sleeves pushed up, over a silver metallic skirt draped and left raw at the edge. Black pointed ankle boots, no tights. Nothing goes over this. Nothing would fit. Late lunch, early exit.

A cobalt wool jacket with shoulders cut like a roofline, over a raw-edged silver metallic skirt and black pointed boots.

The jacket is dense cobalt wool with shoulders built out past the body into two sharp points, a wrap front that closes without visible buttons, a nipped waist and a hem that drops diagonally from the hip to a point at the front. The sleeves are pushed up to the forearm. Under it, a skirt of silver metallic weave, draped and knotted at the hip, falling asymmetrically to the calf with raw, unfinished edges that fray in the light.

Two textures that should not get on: hard wool and a cloth that looks like foil. They work because the colours are flat and there are only two. Black pointed leather ankle boots, no tights, no bag. Cold-season dressing for openings, dinners that start late and rooms with concrete floors. Do not add a coat; the shoulders will not fit through it.

Doorways are a problem. I go sideways.

  • No coat over it; the shoulders set the width
