Burgundy satin dress with a wool overlay and leather straps
A burgundy satin midi dress under a sleeveless wool overlay, held in place by thin leather straps and worn with lug-sole boots.
Three layers in one colour. The base is a burgundy satin midi dress with a high round neck and a loose, fluid skirt. Over it sits a sleeveless overlay in burgundy wool with folded cap shoulders, open at the sides and long enough to hang past the knee. Thin burgundy leather straps run from the shoulder to the waist, buckle at the chest and trail loose below the hip, which is what keeps the wool from sliding around.
The point is the contrast between the satin and the matte wool, so the boots stay flat and black: lace-up leather with a thick lug sole. It is a spring and autumn look for long days with nothing scheduled, and it survives sitting on a floor, which most satin does not.
I came to do laundry. The laundry can wait until the outfit has been seen.
