Red satin ruffle top with a grey herringbone wrap skirt
A deep red satin one-shoulder top with stiff tiered ruffles off one shoulder, over a grey herringbone wool wrap skirt, draped and split at the front.
A one-shoulder top in deep red satin, cut on the bias so it drapes close across the body, with a single sculpted ruffle that climbs the right shoulder in three stiff tiers and stands clear of the arm like a flower that has been ironed. The left shoulder is plain. It is tucked into a high-waisted skirt in grey herringbone wool, draped and twisted at the front so the fabric wraps over itself and opens into a slit that stops above the knee. The skirt falls to mid-calf and the wool has enough weight to hold the fold.
It is a dinner look that borrows from a suit and gives nothing back. Autumn and winter, an apartment with the paint coming off the walls, a restaurant with no sign. A pointed black pump and a long dark coat carried, not worn, because the ruffle will not go under a sleeve.
Red is not my colour. Today it is. Do not expect this to last.
