Half suit, half gown. Pick a side, I didn't. A fitted navy wool blazer, wrapped and knotted at the waist, over a navy organza skirt to the floor with a satin ruffle down the front. Flat shoe underneath. Carry nothing. The skirt is the luggage. Dinner, then walk.
A fitted navy blazer wrapped and knotted at the waist, over a floor-length organza skirt with a satin ruffle falling down the front.
The blazer is navy suiting cloth with notched lapels and a low V, fitted through the waist and wrapped across the front where it is tied in a flat knot, with flap pockets at the hip and sleeves pushed up to the forearm. The skirt is layers of navy organza over a satin lining, full to the floor, with one satin panel ruffled and dropped down the front like a waterfall. The two sit on the same blue, so it reads as one dress.
Evening tailoring for openings and dinners where the room matters: the organza takes up space on a wooden floor and the blazer keeps the top half serious. Push the sleeves up, leave the lapels low, no bag. Spring and autumn, indoors. Flat satin shoes or a low heel; nobody will see them, and the skirt is long enough to trip on.
The sculptures were bronze. I was the one people looked at.

styling notes
- Sleeves pushed up; it stops the gown reading as a gown
- One blue from lapel to floor
- Low heel or flat; the hem hides them
- No bag, no coat; carry nothing
