A navy crinkle jacquard coat dress, puff sleeves and a handkerchief hem, tied with black ribbon, on the cobbles of an old town before anyone is up.

A coat dress in navy jacquard with a crinkled, cloqué surface that holds the light in the folds. Notched lapels, a concealed front closure, sleeves gathered into a full puff that narrows to a deep cuff, and a handkerchief hem that drops into four points around the knee. At the waist, a flat black grosgrain ribbon ties through a slot and hangs loose, the only thing on it that is not navy.

Worn as a dress, with no tights and a pointed pump, it is a spring or autumn look for a city morning that turns into lunch. Buttoned to the lapel it reads as a coat; open over a black slip it reads as evening. The puff sleeve wants nothing else going on, so no bag on the shoulder, a small clutch at most.
