Cobalt satin one-shoulder dress with a cape sleeve

A cobalt satin one-shoulder dress with a wide cape sleeve, a fitted waist and an asymmetric ruffle hem, in a gallery of steel sculptures.

A dress in heavy cobalt satin, cut on one shoulder: the left side is a wide cape sleeve that falls from the neckline to the elbow in a single drape, the right shoulder is uncovered, and the bodice is fitted through to a seamed waist. From there the skirt is slim and then breaks into a diagonal ruffle that runs from the knee on one side to the calf on the other, so the hem is high on the left and low on the right.

One piece, one colour, and the fabric does the rest. Spring and summer, a cocktail hour, a dinner, an opening in a room with hard light where the satin can throw it back. A thin sandal in black or metallic, no jacket to interrupt the shoulder, no bag; the dress has no pockets and does not apologise for it.
