Slate grey knit midi dress with a satin tuxedo cummerbund
A long-sleeved slate grey knit midi, cinched with a black satin cummerbund borrowed from a tuxedo. Casino floor, pointed pumps, nothing else.
A fine-gauge knit midi dress in slate grey: crew neck, long sleeves with ribbed cuffs, cut close from the shoulder to a hem that stops mid-calf. On its own it is a quiet dress. The black satin cummerbund changes that. Pleated, wide, sitting at the natural waist where a tuxedo would put it, it turns a knit dress into something that belongs under chandeliers rather than under a coat.
Worn with black pointed pumps and nothing else: no bag, no tights, no jacket. The knit does the warmth, the satin does the evening, so the look carries from a winter dinner to the casino floor without a layer in between. If the night runs long, the cummerbund comes off and the dress goes back to being a dress.
The machines were all flashing when I walked in. I kept the one piece of black satin that mattered and let the rest of the room do its thing.

styling notes
- The cummerbund sits at the natural waist, pleats facing up, nothing over it
- Pointed pump only; a boot would turn it into daywear
- No tights: the knit does the warmth
- Small hoops and the smartwatch are all the jewellery it needs
