Three fabrics, one outfit. Restraint was not consulted. A cropped top with oversized sleeves and a high-low skirt, pieced from black jersey, charcoal wool and bronze metallic panels. No tights, a flat boot. The bronze counts as colour. I'll need a week to recover. Wear it to a gallery opening.

A cropped top with oversized sleeves and a high-low skirt, pieced from black jersey, charcoal wool and bronze metallic panels.

A two-piece cut like a puzzle. The top is cropped, with a round neck, a slash under the collarbone and short sleeves wide enough to stand away from the arm. It is pieced from three materials: matte black bonded jersey, charcoal wool felt across one shoulder, and bronze metallic panels set in on the diagonal. The skirt repeats the trick, with a flat black waistband, a wool front, a bronze pleat and folded black panels that drop from above the knee on one side to the calf on the other.

It is worn as a set, with a short gap between the two and nothing else competing. No tights in spring, opaque ones and a flat boot in autumn. It suits an opening, a launch, any room with hard light and a concrete floor. Keep the hair straight and out of the way of the shoulders, because the shoulders are the point.

Three fabrics, two pieces, one colour I agreed to. Bronze counts as black if you squint.
