Camel trench with a pleated back over a black slip dress
A long camel wool trench with a storm flap and a pleated back, worn open over a black satin slip dress and ankle boots.
The coat is camel wool, cut as a trench: storm flap at the shoulder, wide lapels, a tie belt and belted cuffs, sleeves pushed up. The back is the surprise, set with deep knife pleats from the waist that open and swing as soon as there is any wind. It falls below the knee and is worn open, the belt left to hang at the sides.
Under it, a black satin slip dress to mid-calf, plain and close, with thin straps, and black leather ankle boots with a square block heel and a side zip. It is the most wearable outfit here: autumn through spring, for travel, a long drive or an afternoon with no plan.
The car was not mine. The road was empty. Both felt like permission.
