Black turtleneck column dress under a leather trench
A ribbed turtleneck column dress and an open leather trench, walked down a wet sidewalk at night. All black, nothing else.
The dress is a ribbed jersey column with a high turtleneck and long sleeves, cut close from the shoulder to the ankle with no seam to break the line. Over it, a black leather trench in a soft nappa, single-breasted, worn open so the whole length of the dress stays in view. Knee-high leather boots with a square toe and a stacked block heel finish the column rather than interrupting it.
This is the easiest all-black there is: one long shape, one long coat, one pair of boots you can actually walk in. Wear it from November through February, to a late dinner, a gallery opening or the walk home afterwards, which is where it looks best. The trench does the talking; keep the hands empty or a small clutch at most.
Neon only looks good on wet pavement. I checked.
