Striped knit sweater with black wide-leg trousers and boots

A cream knit sweater with thin black stripes, a crew neck, ribbed hem and cuffs and a relaxed fit, worn untucked over black wide-leg trousers. The trousers sit high with a flat front, single pleats, slanted pockets and a pressed crease that runs down a full, straight leg to the floor. Black leather ankle boots with a pointed toe just show at the hem.

Stripes are as close as I get to a print, and they work because the rest is plain: black below, a long line of trouser, one coffee. Autumn and winter, a bookshop with a cafe at the back, a shelf to lean on. The sleeves are pushed back so the ink and the watch show at the wrist. Keep the hem long enough to break on the boot and the sweater loose enough to sit over the waistband.

I came for one book. I left with the same book and a second coffee.
