Charcoal knit sweater, bone wide-leg trousers and loafers

A charcoal knit sweater over bone linen wide-leg trousers, finished with black horsebit loafers: coffee-shop tailoring with the day off.

A charcoal wool-blend knit sweater with a crew neck, dropped shoulders and deep ribbed cuffs, worn loose over bone linen wide-leg trousers. The trousers sit high on the waist and fall straight and full to the ankle, with the soft crumple that linen gets by eleven in the morning. On the feet, black leather loafers with a gunmetal snaffle bar across the vamp.

Two colours, two textures: the dry hand of the knit against the slubbed linen, dark on top and pale below. It is a spring-to-autumn outfit for a marble table and a long coffee, the sleeves pushed up so the ink shows at the wrist. The loafers keep it from reading as pyjamas; a pointed flat would do the same. Leave the trousers uncuffed and let them break on the shoe.

Pastries were bought. None were eaten in the photo. Priorities.
