The sleeves arrive before I do. An emerald satin wrap top with pleated fan sleeves, over charcoal wool wide-leg trousers cut open at the hip and the knee. Thin black sandals. No coat fits over this. In winter I simply don't go. Event, hair down between the fans.
An emerald satin wrap top with enormous pleated fan sleeves, over charcoal wool wide-leg trousers cut open at the hip and the knee.
The top is emerald satin wrapped across the body with an asymmetric neckline, and each sleeve is a half-circle of knife pleats that opens like a fan from shoulder to elbow. From the front the sleeves are wider than the torso. The trousers are charcoal wool, high-waisted and wide with a pressed crease, with a slit cut-out at each hip and a second one across the front of each knee, so the trouser opens in two places and the line stays straight.
This is an outfit for a room with high ceilings: a gallery opening, a dinner in a place that takes itself seriously, an editorial. Thin black sandals, nothing on the arms because nothing would fit, hair down between the sleeves. Autumn to spring; the wool is warm and the sleeves are not built for a coat.
Doorways are a problem. Sideways, always.
