Black, with one green thought. A black wool blazer cut with an emerald satin sash folded across the front, over black wide-leg trousers with deep turned-up cuffs and thin-strap sandals that clear them. The satin does the talking. I answer messages three days later, so it has to. Dinner.
A black wool blazer cut with an emerald satin sash folded across the front, over wide-leg trousers with deep turned-up cuffs.
The blazer does the talking: single-breasted black wool, one shoulder left open under a stiff emerald satin panel that folds across the chest, wraps the waist and finishes in a pointed flap at the hip. The satin is faced in black, so every fold shows both sides. A small cut-out at the ribs where the two halves do not quite meet. The trousers are the same black wool, high-waisted and wide, with a centre crease and a cuff deep enough to hide the shoe.
Wear it as a suit and stop there. Black sandals with a thin strap keep the hem clean, and the cuff wants a heel, not a flat. It works for a dinner that turns into a longer night, or a meeting where the other side needs to remember the outfit. Autumn through spring; the wool is real and the satin is not going anywhere.
The green is the only colour in the room. That was the idea.

styling notes
- The blazer worn on its own; the cut-out is the point
- Heel high enough to clear the cuff
- No bag, no necklace, let the satin do it
