The hem is unfinished. I am not. An emerald satin blazer dress, cut short, with raw edges and one long panel falling to the knee. Black ankle-strap sandals, no tights. Threads loose, hands empty. One of those is a rule. Wear it on a terrace at dusk.
A short emerald satin blazer dress with long notched lapels, a wrapped hip and raw, fraying hems, one of them falling to the knee.
A blazer dress in emerald satin with a lamé shimmer, cut short and then left unfinished on purpose. The top half is a jacket: notched lapels, a welt pocket at the chest, long sleeves pushed to the elbow, lapels that run long to the waist seam. Below the waist it wraps and gathers across the hip, and one panel is left to fall in a long point down the left leg. Every hem is raw, with threads coming loose, as if the scissors were the last tool used.
It is worn on its own, with a black ankle-strap sandal and no tights. This is for warm evenings that begin outside: a terrace above the traffic, the first lights coming on, a drink that arrives quickly.
The edges are fraying and I am not. One of us had to hold it together.
