Leather in daylight. The sun and I have an arrangement. A black leather wrap dress, sleeveless, mandarin collar, two silver clasps holding the whole thing shut, a crepe handkerchief hem to the calf. Lug-sole chelsea boots. Two clasps. Same number as my plans for the week. Coffee through to drinks.

The dress is black leather on top, sleeveless with a small mandarin collar, wrapped across the front and held by two silver clip clasps at the bodice and the waist. Below the hip the leather gives way to a black crepe skirt with a handkerchief hem that drops to the calf on one side and the knee on the other, so the left shin tattoo shows on the move. Black lug-sole chelsea boots underneath keep it on the ground.

Rooftop garden, concrete planters, a skyline in hard morning light. It is a day dress that behaves like an evening one: coffee, a long lunch, a gallery, drinks at the same place at nine. Spring and autumn as is; summer if you can stand leather on the shoulders, which I can and do.

Two clasps hold the whole thing together. Same as most of my plans.
