Denim on top. Don't get used to it. A cropped patch denim jacket, open over a black leather bustier with buckled straps, charcoal flecked wool wide-leg trousers, rooftop, last light. Casual, by my standards. Check the trousers. Sunset drinks on the roof, pointed boot under the hem.

A cropped patch denim jacket thrown over a black leather buckle bustier and charcoal wide-leg trousers, on a rooftop at sunset.

The jacket is a cropped light-wash denim with a frayed hem, an embroidered patch on the chest and a scatter of pin badges on the pocket flap. Under it, a black leather bustier cut asymmetrically across the shoulder, with a buckled strap over the collarbone and a second buckle at the waist that pulls the point of the hem down over the trousers. Those are charcoal, high-waisted and wide, in a flecked wool that catches the last of the light, with a D-ring at the hip where a belt would go.

It is a rooftop outfit for the hour when the city turns orange: denim for the wind, leather for the attitude, tailored trousers so the whole thing reads as dressed rather than thrown on. Spring or autumn, late afternoon into the first drink of the night. Boots or a pointed heel both work; the trousers are long enough to hide either.

The patches came with the jacket. The opinions came with me.
