One black leather jacket, three ways
Everyone owns one, and most people wear it the same way every time: jeans, a T-shirt, a face that says they are not trying. I prefer to try. Black leather, short in the body, zips that catch the light: armour that happens to have sleeves. Over satin it makes a skirt less sweet. Over more leather it makes a night less polite. Over pleats it makes a walk look planned. Three versions, one temperament.
The daytime version. The cropped biker open over a satin cami and a wrap skirt that drapes to the calf, with thin-strap sandals instead of the obvious boot. Silver zips against liquid black satin is the whole idea: hard on top, soft below. A loft full of window light, a lunch that runs late.
The night version. The biker hanging open over a black lace bustier, leather trousers and buckled boots. Leather on leather is the pairing people warn you about. It works when the jacket is the hardest thing in the frame and the lace is the only soft one. A wet street, neon in the puddles, nowhere to be before midnight.
The day-off version. A leather biker that falls into a handkerchief peplum, over a knife-pleated midi skirt with the same broken hem, on platform boots. Pleats and leather is the pairing people call too much. It is not. It is a walk across town, an airport, a long afternoon outside.
