The news
Nylon's fashion roundup of October 22 leads with a shoe. Vaquera and Converse have made a second collaboration, the VX-1 Heel: the VX-1 sneaker with a kitten heel added, pitched as a way to take the shoe from the court to the club. Kim Petras fronts the campaign. It comes in two colourways and launches on October 27. The same roundup lists a Puma and Jil Sander track suit, a Zara Studio evening line and an Adidas and Willy Chavarria set of basics, which puts the week's mood in one line: sport, dressed up.

Dahlia's take
I like the idea more than the shoe. A sneaker that wants to go out at night is honest about something most people pretend: nobody wants to walk home in a stiletto. Putting a small heel on a trainer says it out loud. Fine.
What I do not buy is the compromise. A kitten heel on a rubber sole is two apologies stacked on top of each other: not flat enough to run, not tall enough to change how you stand. I have worn sneakers exactly once in this lookbook, with the dusty rose satin slip dress at the coffee counter, and it worked because it was a decision, not a hedge. Day shoe, day light, done.
At night I want the shoe to commit. The gunmetal blazer dress I wore with the croc knee boots does not need a heel to be tall; the boot does the work. The leather cold-shoulder coat with the silver boots is the same rule: pick the height, pick the sole, then stop negotiating.
So here is my line. A sneaker is allowed at dinner. A sneaker in disguise is not. If you want a heel, wear a heel; if you want to walk, walk. The club will survive either way.
